The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and some PDP stalwarts have donated N6m to the traders affected by the fire, which engulfed the Abdulkadir Kure Ultra-modern Market, Minna, Niger State, last Friday.
About 70 shops and goods estimated at several millions of naira were lost to the inferno.
Atiku
had visited the scene of the incident and promised to assist the traders.
The PDP gubernatorial
candidate in the state, Gado Nasko, handed over the sum of N5m to the market
committee on behalf of Atiku at his campaign office in Minna on Thursday.
Also, the senatorial candidate
of the party in the Zone B, Ibrahim Ishaku; House of Representatives candidate,
Audu Buba; and state House of Assembly candidate, Kabiru Jazu, jointly donated
N1m to support the fire victims.
Receiving
the cash on behalf of the traders, the Chairman of the market committee, Mallam
Shehu Wawo, thanked Atiku and other donors for their benevolence, and pledged
that the money would be given to the victims.
Also, the market supervisor,
Mallam Ado Garba, while thanking the donors, pleaded with the state government
and individuals to render more assistance to the victims.
